Barcelona Christmas Shopping

Turisme de Barcelona is promoting Christmas shopping in the city in seven European countries through the Barcelona Christmas Shopping campaign.
This is the consortium's main promotional focus for these dates every year: It uses online platforms and offers discounts and preferential treatment at total of 130 shops in the Catalan capital. The campaign aims to boost shopping among foreign tourists during the sector's off-peak period in Barcelona, between November and December.

With the slogan Barcelona, a Colourful Christmas, this is the consortium's only annual international campaign and it targets web surfers in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland and Russia. The profile of potential customers is someone in the 35-45 age bracket who travels and likes to shop. Basically, middle or upper class. All in all, the promotional campaign aims to seduce some two million consumers.

Over 130 shops are taking part this year in the promotion campaign, which offers participants a pass with a 10% discount and preferential treatment in shops on the Barcelona Shopping Line (BSL) and in other shopping hubs as well. Visitors can obtain this pass by registering on this webpage, at Turisme de Barcelona information points or at participating shops. In addition, the new smartphone app, bcnXmas card, which enables users to read QR codes put up in the shops and which can be downloaded for free from the microsite, will give users points for various draws, like the one for a weekend in Barcelona. Interaction with customers will help build up a detailed file on visitors, who will be notified of new promotions in future editions.

35% of credit-card spending goes on shopping
According to Turisme de Barcelona data, shopping accounts for about 35% of credit-card spending by foreign tourists in the city.  What's more, tourists visiting Barcelona score the range of shopping options at 8.4 out of 10.

The Barcelona Shopping Line is a Turisme de Barcelona programme that promotes the city as an international shopping destination. This year's campaign is seeking to consolidate Barcelona's position as an international shopping city and, above all, ensure the good times tourism has brought the city's retail sector continue.

The campaign is a joint initiative of Turisme de Barcelona and Barcelona City Council.
